Course Description:
This course will focus on the investigation of materials, pedagogy, and technology to teach Middle School Math and to refresh content knowledge in ways that conform to the National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM) standards. Students will examine strategies and skills to creatively engage secondary level mathematics students as they begin to master Middle School Math.
Course Goals, Objectives & Outcomes:
1. The primary goal of this class is for the student to begin to acquire the techniques necessary to teach effectively Middle School Math at the secondary level.
2. To provide appropriate training for the Middle School Math teacher by providing opportunities to understand the core concepts and develop an understanding of the content, role, and methods.

| Graphing Calculator: | The use of a graphing calculator is required. Knowledge and competence for use of graphing calculators will be the sole responsibility of the student. |
| Course Requirements: | This course is offered through a distance-learning format. Students may take up to nine months to complete all requirements. There are no scheduled class sessions or meetings. This course has 4 modules. Modules must be completed sequentially: each module (activity and blog entries) must be completed prior to beginning the next module. Students must complete a comprehensive Final Exam after completion of all modules. The student will need access to a computer with Internet and sufficient bandwidth to stream online videos (i.e., DSL, Cable modem, or T1/T3). The student will also need access to an email account. |
